Establishing and Enhancing National Legal Frameworks for the Safe, Secure and Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy and Ionizing Radiation

The Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency presents its compliments to the IAEA's Member States and has the honour to draw their attention to the 2019 Nuclear Law Institute to be held in Vienna, Austria, from 30 September to 11 October 2019.

As in previous years, the 2019 Nuclear Law Institute (NLI) will offer two weeks of intensive training for up to sixty lawyers from Member States in all areas of nuclear law and in the drafting of corresponding national legislation.

Drawing on modem teaching methods based on interaction and practice, the NLI will provide a combination of 'impulse' lectures covering the fundamentals of nuclearlaw; facilitated small-group (so-called 'TOP') sessions focusing on the implementation of information from the lectures; and a number of legislative drafting exercises.

Additional information on the NLI can be found on the IAEA website:

Participation in the NLI takes place within the framework of IAEA technical cooperation project: INT0096 "Establishing and Enhancing National Legal Frameworks for the Safe, Secure and Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy and Ionizing Radiation", in which the programmatic need, priority and funding have been identified for this focused training.

Nominated candidates should be legal experts or regulators employed in governments and or relevant national agencies involved in the drafting of nuclear-related national legislation.
